The Foundation for Geauga Parks' (FGP) Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the winners of FGP’s 2024 Conservation Scholarships. Fundamental to the Foundation's mission is to nurture our next generation of conservationists. FGP launched the Conservation Scholarship Program in 2022 to support students who plan to enter studies in areas that promote education, preservation, conservation and appreciation of natural resources.
“We are committed to supporting the education of our future scientists, naturalists and conservationists,” says FGP Executive Director Christine Davidson. “There is no greater investment we can make to protect Geauga County’s beautiful natural resources.”
The Scholarship Application process required each applicant to submit a package that included a two-page essay, high school transcripts, three letters of recommendation, and a statement of activities, honors, leadership, and work experience. Applications were reviewed and individual interviews were conducted with finalists by the Foundation's Scholarship Committee, consisting of Carl Brondel, Andy Bushman, Christine Davidson, Lee Imhof, and Mary Beth O'Neill.
Not only did all the applicants demonstrate exemplary aptitude but the winners also displayed their commitment to promoting values aligned with the Foundation's mission through their participation in extra-curricular activities, academic and community projects, volunteer services, clubs, fundraisers, and internships. Scholarship Winners expressed interest in furthering their studies in environmental sciences or nature education and almost all of them participated in, and benefited from, Geauga Park District's Nature Scopes Binocular Program in 5th grade, proudly funded by the Foundation for Geauga Parks since 2003.
